May 22, 2015 (newstodate): Work is progressing on the reconstruction of Olsztyn-Mazury International Airport, in Poland's Masurian region.
The airport is currently inoperative after being constructed in the 1950'ies as a military air force base but achieved some dubious fame in 2005 when reports emerged of involvement in CIA prisoner activities.
Nor, a project aims at constructing a new terminal, renovating the existing 2,500m Category I runway, implementing of new runway lighting system, and building a control tower, and the airport is scheduled to be completed by January 2016 with the capacity of serving one mio passengers annually when fully commissioned.
Passenger volumes are soaring at almost all Polish airport in 2015.
Out of 13 Polish airports, seven have seen more passengers each subsequent month during January-April 2015, and only one airport, Zielona Gora experienced negative growth.
