May 13, 2015 (newstodate): Another Russian carrier has had its wings clipped by the Russian CAA: The Russian carrier Ak Bars Aero, based at Bugulma Airport.
In the first instance, the airline had itself asked to have its AOC temporarily suspended from January 12, 2015, but the plan was to reactivate the AOC by the start of the new summer schedule.
Behind the decision to suspend the AOC were the carrier's growing debts and deteriorating financial situation.
As it did not prove sufficient financial recovery, the AOC was eventually permanently revoked.
The fourth Russian carrier to operate CRJ aircraft and set up in 1953 as part of Tatarstan Airlines and the Aeroflot Bugulma Division, Ak Bars Aero, formerly named Bugulma Aviation Enterprise, provided flights on a network connecting key airports in Tatarstan with numerous destinations in Russia, the CIS region and other countries including Lithuania where the carrier offered flights from March 26, 2012, between St Petersburg and Vilnius.
