May 6, 23015 (newstodate): In 2014, Kyrgyzstan's Manas International Airport saw its cargo volumes down by 13.9 percent, to a total of 19,028 tonnes.
International cargo dropped 17.6 percent, y-o-y, to 18,926 tonnes, while domestic cargo was down 16.4 percent to 102 tonnes.
The decline in cargo reflects the Kyrgyz governments decision to close down Manas Transit Center, at Bishkek, from July 2014, and its failure to realize the much-heralded dreams for its conversion into a cargo transit hub.
Also contributing to the shortfall of cargo is Uzbekistan Airway's cessation of flights at the airport.
