May 27, 2015 (newstodate): Seeking ways to fill the void after the shortfall of transfer traffic via Riga by passengers to and from Russia and the CIS, the Latvian carrier airBaltic is expanding its flights operations outside the Baltic region.
New to come are scheduled flights during the coming winter schedule 2015/16 between Prague and Budapest and between Gdansk and Amsterdam.
Flights between Prague and Budapest will start from October 25, with 10 weekly rotations as an extension of the route between Riga and Prague, and flights between Gdansk and Amsterdam from October 26 will be offered three times per week.
airBaltic's first flight operations outside the Baltic region started from May 9, 2015, with Bombardier Q400 aircraft between Frankfurt and Heringsdorf on the Usedom Island in cooperation with the tour operator ArGe group.
airBaltic has also entered the charter market, contracted by the Danish tour operator SunCharter to fly tourists from Aalborg Airport, in Northern Denmark, to Crete and Rhodos, starting from April 18, 2015, and this opened up for a new route between Riga and Aalborg utilizing the capacity on the otherwise empty legs.
