May 5, 2015 (newstodate): According to its Facebook page, the start-up carrier Greenland Express seems to have decided on the Let-410 aircraft for its planned domestic flights in Greenland.
The Let L-410 Turbolet is a twin-engine short-range transport aircraft, manufactured by the Czech aircraft manufacturer LET, mostly used for passenger transport and since 1969 built in more than 1,100 units.
With a range about 1,380 km, the aircraft will carry 19 passengers or up to 1,700 kg of cargo and can operate at small airports with short runways.
The Let-410 has so far not been operated by any airline in the Nordic region.
The aircraft enjoys a dubious honor of being listed among the three least-safe aircraft in a research by the UK paper Telegraph, and according to Aviation Safety Network the Let-410 has so far been involved in 111 hull losses of which 100 resulted in 416 fatalities.
