These days are long gone, thanks to massive investments in runway infrastructure and state-of-the-art navigational systems.
This has secured the airport an impressive ranking in the latest On-time Reports by FlightView.
In April 2015, Vagar Airport scores a position as #2 in departures with a punctuality at 98.9 percent, and came in #3 in arrivals with a punctuality also at 98.9 percent.
This compares favorably with for instance Denmark that is ranked #19 in both departures and arrivals with punctuality at 88.6 and 86.7, respectively.
Atlantic Airways, the national carrier of the Faroe Island, was recently approved by the Danish Transport Authorities to operate the world's first Required Navigation Performance Authorization Required, RNP AR, approach with a transition to the ILS and a Missed Approach in RNP AR 0.1 procedure at Vagar Airport.
The aim of combining Performance Based Navigation and ILS is to maximize the two technologies: the quality and comfort of a precision approach combined with a Missed Approach designed in RNP AR 0.1 allowing a significant reduction of the weather minima thanks to an accurate and reliable guiding system.
