May 7, 2015 (newstodate): Estonian Air is currently preparing for handing back its four E-170 aircraft leased from Finnair.
The carrier took delivery of its first E-170 aircraft in February 2012, originally on a one-year lease contract that was since prolonged.
-Finnair is leasing these aircraft from SMBC in Dublin, so Estonian Air is subleasing from Finnair, says Jan Palmer, Estonian Air CEO.
-We will now go through a redelivery process from August 2015 with one aircraft per month to Finnair, and Finnair will then hand back the aircraft to their owner, SMBC.
-We will now be a position to adjust our fleet to the business we have. For more than two years we have had two aircraft more than we could utilize in our route net.
-By the end of 2015 we will thus be operating a single-type aircraft fleet, which will lower our overall cost, says Mr Palmer.
Also contributing to the carrier's vehement efforts to obtain a better cost/revenue balance is the recent decision to seek a sale/lease-back of its three CRJ900 aircraft, which has been entrusted to Skyworld Aviation in a tender to be closed in June 2015 - if attracting interesting bids.
