May 11, 2015 (newstodate): Icelandair may be in advanced preparations for launching flights to a new destination in Canada: Montreal.
The carrier is already operating year-round flights from Iceland to Toronto and Edmonton as well as seasonal summer flights to Vancouver and Halifax, but the potentials for even more Canadian traffic seems to call for more destinations and flights.
So far, the plans for flights to Montreal have not been confirmed by the carrier, but industry sources claim that an announcement is imminent and the MontrealPierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport has posted information on the coming new route on its facebook site.
In 2007, Iceland and Canada signed an Open Skies Agreement, replacing the former Memorandum of Understanding on Air Services that allowed operations to Canada by Icelandair, the flag carrier of Iceland, since 1995.
The Open Skies Agreement allows unlimited traffic for both passenger and cargo flights.
