May 5, 2015 (newstodate): Is Lithuania's neighbor Belarus an integral part of the catchment area of Air Lituanica?
According to the country's vice-minister of Transport and Communications, Arijandas Sliupas, it is. According to the country's new carrier Air Lituanica it isn't.
-Air Lituanica does see some passengers from Belarus, and we do have a sales office in Minsk, but we do not see much traffic from there, says Simonas Bartkus, Air Lituanica CCO.
-For one thing, much of the traffic at Minsk Airport is already served primarily by low-cost carriers, and besides the distance from Minsk to Vilnius is about 150 km while the airport actually lies some 50 km further to the east from Minsk.
-It would therefore make little sense for us to consider setting up flights between Minsk and Vilnius, and anyway most of the traffic from Minsk consists of leisure passengers. Today, we see only some four percent of our Belarus passengers in the business segment, says Mr Bartkus.
