May 19, 2015 (newstodate): The US-headquartered PACAVI Group has surprisingly announced that it has delivered a first Airbus A320 passenger aircraft to HAITEC Aircraft Maintenance GmbH for conversion to freighter.
-We expect final approval of the Supplemental Type Certificate by FAA and EASA in 2016. From then on, our plan is to grow fast. There are 50-60 narrowbody freighters of A320 and A321 size produced annually and we are well positioned to dominate this market in the coming years. We expect HAITEC to account for about a dozen commercial conversions a year, Stephan Hollmann, PacAvi Group CEO, said on the company's website.
So far, the Airbus A320/321 P2F programs have been proposed by the airbus Group's subsidiary EFW that is still to announce the formal launch of the freighter conversion, presumably to take place later this year during one of the forthcoming trade shows.
EFW, however, refuses to be in any way connected to the HAITEC conversion project.
-We have read the message as well and wonder how they will do it, but there is definitely no support from Airbus for PACAVI, says Wolfgang Schmid, EFW Conversoin Program Manager.
-There will be no engineering support from our side, and we do have our doubts about how they will work around the fly-by-wire technique, says Mr Schmid.
