Apr 10, 2015 (newstodate): After only a brief period of service, Turkmenistan Airlines has announced the suspension of flights between Ashgabat and Riga, in Latvia.
So far, the decision is to cancel flights from April 11, 2015, till July 1, awaiting an increase in market demands for the service.
Starting from February 13, 2015, the carrier has been offering one weekly rotation on the route between Ashgabat and Riga with Boeing 737 aircraft.
Expectations were, however, that the route would signal the carrier's intention to include Riga as an en-route stop on flights from Ashgabat to Toronto, in Canada, from this summer already.
With the suspension of the Riga-Ashgabat flights, doubts are now cast over eventual prospects for the Toronto connection as well.
