Apr 17, 2015 (newstodate): Two Airbus A320 from Libya's Afriqiyah Airways are now standing on the apron at Lithuania's Vilnius Airport.
The aircraft have been placed on a unique three-years management contract with Lithuania's Small Planet Airlines that will operate them on its own Lithuanian AOC after their Lithuanian registration.
-The original plan was to operate these aircraft out of Libya to EU under our AOC, however due to the unstable situation in Libya, the aircraft will be operated all-white in Europe this summer, based in Portugal and Poland, respectively, says Vytautas Kaikaris, Small Planet Airlines CEO..
-In Portugal, the contract is with Privilege Style, while we will use the aircraft based in Poland as a back-up capacity.
-We are also providing a lot of in-class and on-the-job training to our Libyan colleagues with the aim of raising their standards to EASA levels, sys Mr Kaikaris.
Small Planet Airlines was first commissioned by Afriqiyah Airways in spring 2014 to operate its daily flights from Tripoli to Dusseldorf, London Gatwick and Paris CDG on a two-month contract, and this has paved the way for a deeper cooperation.
With the two African aircraft Small Planet Airlines will be operating a record-large fleet comprising 18 Airbus A320 aircraft during this summer schedule.
