Apr 20, 2015 (newstodate): The ambitious plans for start of new international air services by Viking International Airlines seem now to rely more on a miracle than hard facts.
The project was to set up cargo and passenger air traffic to serve cruise ships calling at Stavanger, and a company Northcape Turnaround Port was set up for the purpose.
The company has, however, run into dire financial difficulties after the US partner behind both Northcape Turnaound Port and Viking In't Airlines proved unable to materialize his promises.
At the same time, reports are that the Boeing 747 aircraft dedicated to the launch of the air services are instead being cannibalized.
Already in summer 2014, Norwegian media reported that the group behind Viking International Airlines, US-based Global First Response Inc had acquired a majority stake in a new company, Northcape Turnaroundport AS set up to provide handling of cruise ships in the country's northernmost region.
The plan was to offer facilities for turning around passengers and crews on cruise ships calling in the region, including flight connections by Viking International Airlines between Norway and the USA.
