Apr 15, 2015 (newstodate): Prior to December 2015, all aircraft with a maximum take-off weight over 5,700 kg or designed to carry 19 or more people must comply with EU requirements for enhanced TCAS systems to minimize risk of mid-air collisions.
Among providers supplying the new TCAS systems is the Dutch Fokker Services that has landed an order from the Latvian airline airBaltic to provide TCAS version 7.1 on its fleet of Boeing 737 and Bombardier Q400 aircraft.
The new TCAS can analyze a potential risk situation situation and if the danger of collision is not eliminated, it will replace the current settings with new instructions, which the current version TCAS 7.0 does not provide.
According to Eurocontrol, the current version of TCAS limits the potential for collision avoidance in the air to one accident in three years.
After the implementation of the new a new versions, the probability of collision should be reduced four times.
