Apr 28, 2015 (newstodate): The Icelandair Group has decided to re-brand its air cargo businesses as one single unit, Icelandair Cargo.
Taking effect from May 1, 2015, Air Iceland's cargo department that has so far been an independent unit will be merged with Icelandair Cargo, headed by Gunnar Mar Sigurfinsson, Icelandair Cargo managing director.
At Air Iceland, the cargo department will continue under its new name with Vigfus Vigfusson, today Air Iceland Cargo manager, as its head.
All air cargo within the Icelandair Group will thus constitute a single business, utilizing the joint belly and main-deck capacity on the aircraft fleet of Icelandair and Air Iceland through one unified sales channel.
The main contribution by Air Iceland to the joint cargo business is cargo carried on flights between Iceland and Greenland, primarily consisting of exports of perishables from Iceland directly into several destinations in Greenland, bypassing Air Greenland's own Atlantic hubs.
