Apr 24, 2015 (newstodate): Will Greenland Express be able to perform its first flight, as announced, on May 11, 2015, from Billund to Greenland? Hardly...
On February 19, 2015, Greenland Express e-mailed Greenland's government and the Danish CAA, Trafikstyrelsen concerning a request for resumption of air services, rates, and details on its new airline partner.
Procedures are that Greenland's government will first be heard for a recommendation concerning traffic political issues, and the CAA will then handle the case based on this recommendation and a full technical and operational verification of all pertinent matters relating to air safety etc.
-In this case, Greenland's government did not forward its recommendation at first opportunity, relaying the matter to us only on April 17, says Per Schmock, Trafikstyrelsen Head of Division, Center for Aviation.
-Greenland Express may find that we should have reacted earlier, which would however be difficult considering the established procedures between Greenland's government and the CAA.
-Once the matter was formally relayed to us, we asked Greenland Express on April 22 to provide a direct contact to its airline partner, the Portuguese carrier White Airways, to clarify a few questions concerning operational issues, and this is where matters stand today, says Mr Schmock.
Concerning rates, White Airways cannot directly copy the rates scheme earlier set up by Denim Air that was Greenland Express' earlier capacity provider, but has to hand in a new application for approval, the CAA says.
