Apr 16, 2015 (newstodate): After a long period, Russia and Georgia have now come to an agreement over the provision of air services linking destinations in the two countries.
Commercial air traffic came to a halt in 2006 after the military confrontations between the two countries, and after a temporary resumption in 2008, traffic was again suspended leaving only charter operations connecting Tbilisi and Moscow.
Negotiations have now led to an agreement that will allow Georgian carriers to operate flights to Moscow, St Petersburg, Samara, Yekaterinburg, Sochi, Mineral Waters and Rostov-on-Don, while Russian carriers will be able to fly to Tbilisi, Kutaisi and Batumi.
No date for implementation of the new agreement has yet been announced, though.
