Apr 10, 2015 (newstodate): Finnair Cargo did see volumes in the first quarter of 2015 down by 13.6 percent, y-o-y, but this causes no alarm, the company says.
-As we communicated last year, instead of continuing the long haul freighter business, which was not viable, we saw shifting focus to reliable, frequent, high quality belly traffic being the right direction for Finnair Cargo, says Antti Kuusenmaki, Finnair Head of Cargo
-Now, ahead of introducing the A350 "mini-freighter" flights as the first European carrier in a couple of months, we are relatively satisfied to report a 1.3 percent volume growth in this core business, scheduled traffic - driven by a 7.1 percent growth in North Atlantic traffic thanks to our new route to Miami, and 2.5 percent growth in our Asian routes, says Mr Kuusenmaki.
During Q1 2014, Finnair Cargo was still operating up to three weekly MD-11F flights between Helsinki and Hong Kong and Hanoi, rendering a direct comparison of y-o-y volumes hazardous.
