Apr 30, 2015 (newstodate): Ex-factory deliveries of new aircraft, ferry flights and test flights entail plenty of unused cargo capacity that can be put to good use for humanitarian purposes.
One fresh example is provided by Airbus and its Airbus Corporate Foundation that dedicated an Airbus A350 XWB test flight to bring 50 relief workers and 21 tonnes of food and medical equipment sponsored by several French NGOs into Nepal where the aircraft landed on April 29, 2015.
On its return flight, the aircraft will carry some 200 French nationals from Nepal back to Paris CDG.
Airbus will also dedicate an Airbus A320 aircraft to lift relief supplies to Nepal on its delivery flight to an Asian operator by the end of this week.
Since its establishing in 2008, Airbus Corporate Foundation has operated about 40 similar relief flights into the world's disaster areas.
