Apr 14, 2015 (newstodate): Airbus' program for conversion of passenger Airbus A330 aircraft to freighters is shaping up.
-The A330-300 p2f program is sharp on schedule. We intend to start with the first conversion of an A330-300 by end of this year with the certification process finalized by beginning of 2017. This aircraft will be for a non-disclosed customer, says Wolfgang Schmid, EFW conversion program manager.
-Next, the first A330-200 conversion will commence by March 2017 and be certified in June 2018. This and one further, as well as two options, will be converted for Egypt Air.
-Plans for conversion of the A321 and A320 are in good progress. We expect it to be announced within the next couple of weeks, says Mr Schmid.
The larger A330-300P2F will be particularly suitable for integrators and express carriers thanks to its high volumetric payload capability with lower-density cargo.
Complementing this will be the A330-200P2F which will be optimized for higher-density freight and longer range performance.
