Apr 16, 2015 (newstodate): All this talk of a "monopoly" in Greenland's air services is only hot air, according to Air Greenland.
-Anyone can apply with Greenland's government for obtaining its support to plans for new air sservices. In the event, Greenland's government is only a partner in the hearing process as the eventual decision whether to grant commercial license and issuing an AOC rests with Denmark's CAA, Trafikstyrelsen, says Christian Keldsen, Air Greenland CCO.
-If there is really anything at all new in the current situation it may be that this time no less than two new airline projects are planning at the same time for setting up traffic within Greenland and between Greenland and Denmark.
-Add to this the fact that right now at least six carriers are or have been operating here, including Suluit Air, Nuna Air, Air Alpha Greenland, TELEPOST Greenland, Air Iceland, and Blue Ice Helicopters.
-It is nowhere written that Air Greenland should be protected as the sole provider of air services in this country. It is rather the very limited size of our market that has kept us alone in providing year-round air services in this country.
-All we need is that all players compete on the same level field. If so, we are always eager to welcome new projects, says Mr Keldsen.
