Mar 03, 2015 (newstodate): The third Airbus A350 XWB aircraft is now on the final assembly line at Airbus in Toulouse.
Based on the current delivery schedule of the new aircraft, Finnair will take delivery of its first A350 XWB on September 15, 2015, and a further three deliveries will be made before the end of this year.
Seven A350 aircraft will next be delivered in 2016-17, and eight A350 XWB aircraft will join the fleet between 2018 and 2023 as Finnair has thus exercised its purchase rights.
The carrier is now deep into the process to secure financing of its A350 aircraft, with the first two aircraft already secured by sales-lease back agreements with GECAS, and the carrier is now tendering the reset of the aircraft purchases.
Finnair plans to phase out its seven Airbus A340 aircraft by the end of 2017, following the delivery and entry into service of the A350 XWB fleet.
As a part of the deal Airbus has also agreed to acquire four A340-300 aircraft currently owned by Finnair in 2016 and 2017.
