Mar 24, 2015 (newstodate): The Latvian charter and ACMI company SmartLynx Airlines is adding three more Airbus A320 aircraft to its fleet before the start of the summer 2015 operations, bringing the total to 12 aircraft.
-One A320 will be placed on our Latvian AOC and two will be registered on our Estonian AOC, bringing our fleet in Estonian to three aircraft, says Aigars Jakovels, SmartLynx CFO.
-Only one of the three Airbus aircraft with our Estonian subsidiary will, however, be operating from Estonia as the other two will immediately be placed on wet-lease contract with a Turkish operator after registration.
-All aircraft are already covered by contract for the summer season, so capacity is virtually sold out except maybe for one aircraft during May-June. Two Airbus aircraft will for instance be operating for Ryanair from Madrid, and up to three aircraft will be operating for Corendon.
-Also the summer operations, usually starting only from May 1, are commencing earlier this year, with some operations starting already by the end of March.
-So from the sales aspect, the situation is fine. It is more demanding from the revenue aspect due to the high dollar rate against the euro which will be a challenge in 2015 for everyone in the industry, says Mr Jacovels.
