Mar 03, 2015 (newstodate): Low demand in the market due to the current crisis around Russia and Ukraine has led Icelandair to suspend flights on its route between Iceland and Russia during this summer.
Icelandair launched flights to St Petersburg, its first Russian destination, from the 2013 summer schedule, with two weekly flights from Keflavik during the season.
Later, Icelandair and Aeroflot signed a code-share agreement taking effect from March 30, 2014, under which the two airlines added their codes to flights between Iceland and Russia via third-countries.
Earlier, plans were for Icelandair to probe deeper into the Russian market after opening up flights to St Petersburg, with flights to Moscow and other destinations.
Like Icelandair, SWISS has also suspended flights on its route to St Petersburg during the coming summer period.
