Mar 12, 2015 (newstodate): Greenland is set to lose its air connection to Canada from this summer.
At least, Air Greenland has announced that it will suspend services on the route between Nuuk in Greenland and Iqaluit, formerly called Frobisher Bay, in Canada, due to low demand in the market.
According to Air Greenland, the route would require state subsidies if air services were to be maintained.
But while Air Greenland is thus suspending scheduled services to the Canadian Inuit destinations, another start-up carrier may return air services between Greenland and Canada.
Greenland Express is currently in negotiations with the Canadian aviation authorities over its application to open up scheduled flights between Kangerlussuaq and two yet-unspecified major cities in Canada.
If everything, including the carrier's launch of services from May 11, 2015, falls into place, Greenland Express hopes to start its Canada-Greenland-Denmark services already later in 2015.
