Mar 09, 2015 (newstodate): Greenland's start-up carrier Greenland Express is keen to develop its domestic feeder route network.
-We have applied for the approval by Greenland's government to start flights on a number of feeder routes connecting to our Transatlantic flights and would of course like to see this in place from the start, says Gert Brask, Greenland Excpress CEO.
-The application was handed in by autumn 2014, but we are still awaiting the outcome of the negotiation. At this moment we expect a final decision to be announced later this month. But so far no carrier, except Air Greenland, has been approved in domestic traffic. However, indications are that our aplication has received a positive response.
-We have conducted a thourough research to identify the right turboprop aircraft for the domestic fligthts. No less than 11 aircraft types have been evaluated, but the specific nature of Greenland's airports infrastructure and the harsh climatic conditions narrow the selection.
-Once the application has been granted, we will be ready to start turboprop operations on an own AOC through a merger with an airline operator with a long-standing record of service, and also experienced in Greenland flights.
-While I cannot reveal the identity of this partner at this stage, suffice it to say that is a Scandinavian operator, albeit not a Danish company, strongly in the market for ambulance flights and other special operations, says Mr Brask.
As earlier reported, Greenland Express will start operations from Billund Airport to Greenland on May 11, 2015.
