Mar 19, 2015 (newstodate): The future ownership of Lithuania's airline Air Lituanica is under evaluation as the city of Vilnius has got a new mayor.
The establishing of the carrier was very much driven by the former mayor, Arturas Zuokas who invested not only his personal reputation but also the city' money in securing the realization of a dream to see a Lithuanian carrier following on the demise of flyLal, the former national carrier.
The newly elected mayor, Remigijus Simasius has made it clear from the start that the city government will no longer be part of the financing of Air Lituanica that must instead find new investors to secure its continued operations.
Air Lituanica is today owned 34 percent by the city of Vilnius, 49 percent by a strategic investor, and 17 percent by other Lithuanian shareholders.
