Mar 26, 2015 (newstodate): The decision by Korean Air Cargo to suspend freighter services at Copenhagen Airport during the summer 2015 schedule leaves only few legacy cargo carriers at the airport.
According to a Korean Air Cargo spokesperson at Copenhagen Airport, hopes are that the carrier will reinstate its freighter service again from the next winter schedule, but so far declining volumes of Asian imports into the Danish market have led to the suspension of services.
Singapore Airlines Cargo is continuing its three weekly services at Copenhagen Airport that serves the carrier as its Nordic gateway and earlier had up to seven weekly operations through Copenhagen Airport.
In addition, Singapore Airlines Cargo also fills the belly holds on the carrier's two weekly Boeing 777 passenger flights.
On the positive side is also Emirates that made Copenhagen Airport is Scandinavian freighter hub from July 1, 2014, currently operating 11 weekly freighter operations at Copenhagen.
Most of this traffic is, however, en-route stops with limited capacity allocated to the Scandinavian markets
Another on-line cargo carrier is China Cargo Airlines that is back from March 25, 2015, but with reduced frequency after suspending flights since the start of the Chinese New Year
China Cargo Airlines will be offering three weekly flights while cutting the Monday flight earlier in the schedule.
In 2014, the shortfall by 16.3 percent, y-o-y, of cargo on all-freighter operations at Copenhagen Airport caused total cargo volumes to drop by 2.9 percent, excluding cargo carried by the integrators.
The airport's strategic focus is thus now heavily on developing the volumes of belly cargo that saw an increase by 11.3 percent in 2014.
