Mar 13, 2015 (newstodate): The launch flight on the first-ever direct nonstop route between Croatia and China has now been slated for May 1, 2015.
Commencing on a charter base, the route will be operated with an Airbus A330-200 from Hainan Airlines.
Since the Balkan wars in the 90'ies, there has been no direct flight connection between China and the Balkan region.
Plans are to start operations on an year-round base, maybe settling as a scheduled service as experience and markets grow.
Hainan Airlines - the largest privately-owned airline and the fourth largest airline in terms of fleet size in China - has, however, further plans for Zadar that may be added as an en-route stop on the carrier's coming new route from April 27, 2015, to Rome offering twice-weekly rotations.
Driving the efforts to materialize the project has been Croatia's Chinese Southeast European Business Association, CSEBA that furthermore eyes increased Chinese interest in the Croatian carrier Croatia Airlines that will be privatized in 2015.
Both Hainan Airlines and China Southern Airlines are seen as potential parties to a deal with the Croatian state over the national carrier.
