Mar 27, 2015 (newstodate): Finnair needs money for financing of its acquisition of new long-haul aircraft, 19 Airbus A350 XWB.
Part of the carrier's efforts to support the new fleet is a series of sale-lease back operations, now targeting the ATR 72 aircraft.
Finnair has thus now concluded a sale-lease back operation with the German company Doric Asset Finance GmbH & Co. KG comprising six ATR72 aircraft.
The aircraft lease agreements will expire after eight years, and the aircraft are subleased by Finnair to its subsidiary Flybe Finland.
On December 17, 2014, Finnair also announced an MoU with GOAL German Operating Aircraft Leasing for sale-lease back of three Embraer 190 aircraft, followed by an MoU with Infinity Aviation Capital LLC for a similar transaction comprising three Embraer 170 aircraft currently flying on a lease contract with Mexican operator Aeromexico Connect.
Finnair has also placed three Embraer 170 aircraft with Estonian Air on a lease contract expiring in 2015, but these aircraft are leased, not owned, by Finnair.
In 2013, Finnair completed a sale-lease back transaction with the Japanese aircraft leasing company NBB comprising the first two of five new Airbus A321 Sharklet aircraft.
This sale- lease back transaction is running for 12 years.
