Mar 27, 2015 (newstodate): In the aftermath of the tragic accident with a suicidal pilot downing Germanwing's Airbus aircraft over France, airlines are taking action to preclude similar action.
One of the remedies to be immediate enforced - and already standard by US airlines - is a demand for two people in the cockpit at all times.
Thus both Norwegian and now also airBaltic has decided that from now on during a flight two crew must be in the cockpit at all times.
As such, if one of the pilots leaves the cockpit, he or she will be replaced by a member of the cabin crew, thus ensuring that the cockpit is continuously staffed by two people.
Already enforced by Norwegian, airBaltic is currently taking all necessary steps to formally implement this decision within the next few hours.
