Feb 17, 2015 (newstodate): Air cargo through Poland's Warsaw Airport was up by 11 percent, y-o-y, in 2014.
A total of 53,500 tonnes of cargo was handled at the airport 2014, including 52,800 tonnes of international cargo, up 10.9 percent and 688 tonnes of domestic cargo that was also up by 9.75 percent, y-o-y.
Imports exceeded exports, with 29,400 tonnes and 23,400 tonnes respectively, and in addition the airport also handled 15,200 tonnes of mail.
The most popular cargo destinations in terms of volume carried included DHL's European hub at Leipzig with over 7,100 tonnes, Dubai, nearly 6,100 tonnes, New York/Newark with more than 5,200 tonnes, Chicago with nearly 5,200 tonnes and UPS' hub at Cologne with 3,600 tonnes.
The biggest cargo carriers were LOT Polish Airlines lifting 20,800 tonnes, European Air Transport flying for DHL with 7,200 tonnes, Emirates with 6,100 tonnes, UPS Airlines with 5,400 tonnes and TNT Airways lifting 2,400 tonnes at Warsaw Airport in 2014.
The airport accounts for some 70 percent of all air cargo through Polish airports.
