Feb 04, 2015 (newstodate): Thai Airways is to pull out from the Russian market by March 29, 2015.
On that date the carrier will perform its last flight between Bangkok and Moscow and Thai is also to close down its office in Moscow, marking the full retreat from the market.
Until now Thai Airways has been offering four weekly rotations on the route served with Boeing 777 aircraft.
Thai first opened its Moscow services on November 1, 2005, using A340-600 aircraft with three weekly rotations
On one hand the current political turmoil and the sharp decline in Russia's economy has reduced the market demand for Thai's offerings as the what remains of the market is turning towards cheaper charter traffic.
On the other hand, Thai Airways is itself in deep financial mire that is causing the closure of other international routes, so far also hitting services to Madrid and Johannesburg.
