Feb 11, 2015 (newstodate): Russia's 7th largest international airport, Krasnodar International Airport is facing a comprehensive reconstruction process that is now caught by the crisis in the country's aviation business.
The airport is part of the Basel Aero Airport Managing Holding that maintains its intentions for going through with the process, including the opening of a design tender expiring by February 23, 2015.
Eight Russian companies have joined the tender, and the design work will have to be completed by September 2015, already.
The airport will have one of its three runways extended to 3,000 m, a new taxiway system is to be developed to increase the capacity of the airport, and the entire airfield system is to be upgraded.
Critics of the project are, however, maintaining that under the current conditions, any estimates for the future passsenger, traffic and airfreight loads are highly volatile, requiring a prolonged period of normal operations for a new assessment to be made.
