Feb 17, 2015 (newstodate): In January 2015, Norway's export of salmon to the world's market place reached 74,185 tonnes - roughly unchanged in volume against last year, but over-all four percent down in value due to currency exchange issues.
Not surprisingly, the export to Russia and Eastern Europe, including notably Ukraine, has declined sharply, but other markets are picking up and outweighing the negative effects from the ongoing political crisis.
Among the markets that are showing significant increases are Asian markets including Thailand, Taiwan and South Korea, while exports to Vietnam have declined the most.
Exports to the EU markets have gone up by 15 percent, corresponding to 57,000 tonnes, in January, and the US market has also continued to rise, in January by 33 percent to 2,700 tonnes.
