Feb 19, 2015 (newstodate): The planned launch of flights by Etihad Regional to Copenhagen, Denmark, as the carrier's first entry into Scandinavia has been called off.
In September 2014, the carrier announced plans for launch of flights on a new route between Dresden and Copenhagen, starting in March 2014 and operated with ATR 72-500 aircraft.
From now on, Darwin Airline, the Swiss regional carrier operating under the Etihad Regional brand, will diversify its business model.
Etihad Regional will instead adapt its commercial operations and increase its activity as a provider of contract services and go deeper into the ACMI market primarily targeting partner carriers within the Etihad Airways Partner group.
Etihad REgional had planned to launch a spree of new routes, but the Swiss Aviation Authority has not approved the agreements behind the proposed new expansion, which is considered by Etihad Regional as an attempt to support instead Swiss International Air Lines, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group.
Darwin has lodged a formal complaint with the Swiss Competition Authority as a result of the damage caused by these actions to Darwins business.
According to Etihad Regional's revised summer 2015 schedule, the carrier will be operating only 15 routes, 11 of which are ex-Geneva.
