Feb 13, 2015 (newstodate): Bombardier has now assured its Latvian customer, airBaltic of the delivery of its first new CS300 aircraft.
-We will receive our first CS300 aircraft in September 2016. This is indeed a significant delay considering the original plans - but at least we are now assured of the schedule and rest content with this, says Martin Gauss, airBaltic CEO & President.
-I only wish we had the aircraft already now. It offers more seats, better fuel efficiency than our current fleet, and thus lower seat-mile costs.
-With the CS300 we would also be in a much better position to exploit the charter market than with today's Boeing 737. With the CS300 we would offer flights to more distant leisure destinations like the Canary Islands, and for instance to Abu Dhabi which is not possible with the Boeing 737 aircraft in our fleet now.
-As matters are, we cannot fully exploit our Boeing 737 fleet during the winter season, instead parking some of these aircraft, says Mr Gauss.
airBaltic is to take delivery of a total of 13 CS300 aircraft, and holds options for a further seven aircraft that may be freely converted to CS100 versions, if warranted.
