Feb 03, 2015 (newstodate): The Latvian carrier is seeking new ways to fill the void after the shortfall of traffic by passengers to and from Russia and the CIS.
As a latest bid to grow business outside the former envelope is the launch of seasonal traffic in Germany in cooperation with the tour operator ArGe group, offering flights from Frankfurt and Dortmund to the summer leisure island of Usedom, in the Baltic Sea.
The flights will start from May 9, 2015, with Bombardier Q400 aircraft to Heringsdorf on the Usedom Island, marking the first time the airline will offer direct flights between destinations both of which are outside of the Baltic States.
airBaltic has also entered the charter market, contracted by the Danish tour operator SunCharter to fly tourists from Aalborg Airport, in Northern Denmark, to Crete and Rhodos, starting from April 18, 2015, and this opened up for a new route between Riga and Aalborg utilizing the capacity on the otherwise empty legs.
Finally, airBaltic has also returned European services from neighboring market Estonia and Vilnius from this summer, introducing so far three new destinations from Tallinn and one from Vilnius.
