Feb 09, 2015 (newstodate): Will airBaltic be able to take delivery of its first Bombardier CS300 aircraft in 2015?
Talking to newstodate on the issue in 2014, the carrier's CEO, Martin Gauss said that "the first delivery will take place by December 2015, and during 2016 the fleet will grow to 10 aircraft".
The CS-series program is, however, running behind schedule and the aircraft manufacturer now expects the CS100 to enter service in the second half of this year, with the CS300 to be ready for delivery six months later, which can mean anything between December 2015 and June, 2016.
The first of two flight-test CS300 aircraft has now completed initial engine runs and is in ground vibration testing in preparation for a first flight, while the second CS300 aircraft is still on the final assembly station.
airBaltic expects to have 10 CS300 aircraft flying before the end of 2016 and has so far placed firm orders for 13 aircraft of the type, enabling the carrier to phase out its current fleet of eight Boeing 737-300 and five Boeing 737-500 aircraft.
