Feb 19, 2015 (newstodate): In 2014, Copenhagen Airport experienced an over-all increase by 8.1 percent in air cargo volumes.
A total of 390,210 tonnes of cargo was handled at the airport, including 49,729 tonnes of imports, up 5.8 percent, 64,729 tonnes of exports, up 8.7 percent, while transfer cargo increased by 8.1 percent to 275,729 tonnes.
The over-all growth in 2014 was, however, generated by integrator traffic where volumes were up no less than 99.9 percent, y-o-y, to 81,133 tonnes, carried by DHL and FedEx.
Cargo on the integrators' freighter traffic thus increased by 72.5 percent to 48,299 tonnes, but the explosive growth in volumes was in trucked integrator freight that increased by 160.7 percent to 32,833 tonnes, reflecting the significance of not least DHL's hub strategy in Denmark.
If the integrator volumes are deducted from the airport's total cargo volumes in 2014, freight on commercial carriers was actually down 3.5 percent, to 309.077 tonnes.
The volumes carried in passenger aircraft belly compartments grew by 7.5 percent to 116,684 tonnes, proving the airport's strategy of focusing on growth in this segment.
Commercial carriers' freighter traffic was down 16.3 percent in 2014, to 42,857 tonnes, reflecting among other things the pull-out from Copenhagen of Air China's cargo flights.
