Feb 12, 2015 (newstodate): Contracted by logistics partners GAC Norway and POLOG, Chapman Freeborn Airchartering has completed an operation to deliver pre-fabricated building materials to Station Nord in northern Greenland for the construction of a new Arctic research station.
The airlift project involved transporting 210 tonnes of odd-sized cargo shipments to Station Nord on 17 Antonov AN-12 charter flights out of Svalbard's Longyearbyen.
The new research station is located only 924 km from the North Pole and only accessible by air as sea ice would only allow for the passage of supply ships every five to ten years.
