Feb 26, 2015 (newstodate): Lithuania's three airports now unified under a single management structure, Airports of Lithuania - achieved good results in 2014.
Together, Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga experienced a nine percent increase in passenger volumes, to 3.8 mio passengers.
77 percent of all passengers were handled at Vilnius Airport, Kaunas Airport accounted for 17 percent and Palanga Airport for four percent of the total volume.
Economically, the results were also positive as net profits increased by a factor 3.2 compared to the preceding year.
The low-cost carriers clearly dominate the Lithuanian air travel market, with Ryanair taking the lead with 34 percent of all passengers, followed by Wizz Air with another 18 percent in 2014.
After more than five years of political debates by changing governments and parliaments, the decision to merge the three airports under joint management was finally implemented by mid-2014.
