Dec 08, 2015 (newstodate): A new airport is shaping up in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan - Ashgabat Oguz Khan Airport.
The 3,800m runway serving the new airport has just been opened, fully certified by ICAO standards and equipped with all pertinent systems.
Also completed is a new ATC tower with equipment provided by Thales, and coming up soon is a new fire and rescue station as well as security services.
Also under construction is a hangar allowing for maintenance work on three aircraft, a new terminal and a cargo terminal with annual capacity for handling of 200,000 tonnes of cargo.
Behind the new airport is the Turkish company Polimeks as winner of the tender in 2012
