Dec 11, 2015 (newstodate): West Atlantic sees its future primarily with growth in the mid-capacity and hi-capacity freighter segments - but turboprop freighters will still have a role to play.
The group is currently operating nine Boeing 737SF freighters in the mid-capacity segment and two Boeing 767-200F freighters in the hi-capacity segment.
In the turboprop segment, West Atlantic remains the single largest operator of ATP freighters with 33 units.
In 2015, West Atlantic, however, lost its contract with Amapola, the Swedish postal carrier for which West Atlantic has served for years as sub-contractor on Swedish domestic routes.
With the loss of the contract, five of West Atlantic's 33 BAe ATP-F aircraft have become redundant and may be cannibalized for spares if no new contract is landed.
-We expect our turboprop fleet will be stable once we exit from Amapola in January 2016, says Russell Ladkin, West Atlantic Marketing & Sales Director.
-We are planning to operate 28 turboprop freighters in 2016, and other contracts for these aircraft are good, solid business so we should be able to deliver that.
