Dec 21, 2015 (newstodate): War-torn Syria has seen the birth of its second privately-owned carrier, Fly Damas Airlines.
An IATA member since November 2015, the carrier performed its first flights from Damascus to Al Qamishli on December 2, 2015, and plans are to launch flights on a network comprising routes from Damascus to Beirut, Baghdad and Najaf with its first aircraft, a Boeing 737-300.
Also in the plans are flights to destinations in Africa and Europe at a later stage.
The first privately-owned carrier, Sham Wind started operations in 2014 with flights to several nearby countries such as Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, Sudan, Turkey and the UAE.
