Dec 21, 2015 (newstodate): Iceland has obtained a new outlet for its exports of seafood to the global market place.
The Icelandic cargo carrier Bluebird Cargo has inked a cooperation agreement with Emirates, allowing Icelandic exporters to send temperature-controlled shipments into the global network operated by Emirates via Dublin Airport.
Bluebird Cargo operates daily flights between Keflavik and Dublin, and this connection will now hook up with Emirates' two daily Boeing 777 flights between Dublin and Dubai, facilitating transfer of palletized cargo shipments between the two carriers.
As of today, most of Iceland's seafood exports go by sea to the UK and to Denmark, limiting the shelf-life of Icelandic fresh seafood products in markets outside of Europe due to longer transportation times.
