Dec 21, 2015 (newstodate): The Estonian MRO provider Magnetic will start construction of a new aircraft painting hangar at Tallinn Airport.
The idea of a new own hangar dedicated to aircraft painting was earlier on the agenda, but the idea was shelved in August 2014, and Magnetic decided instead to start paint jobs in cooperation with UK partners Spraybooth Technology Ltd and Paint Services Group Ltd, to ensure rapid project deployment and confidence to perform the first full painting project in May 2015 in an existing, renovated hangar, rather than in a new dedicated hangar as earlier announced.
Now the decision has been reversed again and a new dedicated painting hangar will be built in co-operation with Tallinn Airport
A Letter of Intent has been signed and preparations have started to build the 2000 square-meter hangar with further expansion possibilities.
The 2,000 sq new hangar will be capable of housing aircraft in size up to Boeing 737MAX9 and Airbus 321neo, as well as regional aircraft.
Equipped with an overhead crane for lifting aircraft engines, the hangar will be suitable for both painting and ad-hock maintenance activities.
According to the agreement, the hangar is planned to be finalized and commissioned by June 1, 2017.
