Dec 04, 2015 (newstodate): Since its change of ownership from state to region in 2009, Sweden's Jonkoping Airport has seen its passenger volumes rising year by year.
And 2015 will be a mile-stone in the efforts to grow the airport with new international routes, as passenger no 100,000 in 2015 was handled on December 2, 2015.
In 2009 the annual passenger volume was only 63,000 but the volumes has been rising positively, expected to be 67 percent over the "start" in 2009, thanks to increased traffic by NextJet to Stockholm and the opening of the new route to Frankfurt by BMI/Lufthansa from March 2015.
-Passing this mile-store means that we are now a "real" airport with both domestic and international scheduled traffic, much charter traffic and a significant air cargo traffic as well, says Sten Norinder, Jonkoping Airport CEO.
-After this, our efforts will be on consolidating this achievement and seek more point-to-point traffic - but first of all we must see sustained growth on the new route to the hub at Frankfurt Airport by gradually building our passengers' focus on choosing this European venue rather than going through other alternatives, says Mr Norinder.
