Dec 07, 2015 (newstodate): EBRD has decided to lend yet another hand to the development of aviation in Kazakhstan.
The development bank is thus to support the construction of Central Asia's first aircraft maintenance center, managed by Air Astana and built at the airport of the capital.
Based on a loan from the bank, Air Astana will build an aircraft maintenance hangar, a warehouse and administrative offices to support the technical maintenance of its fleet of aircraft as well as offering excess capacity to third-party customers in the region.
Design of the new center was planned to be completed by the end of 2014 and the first phase of construction of the carrier was planned for completion by the end of 2015. But due to changes in the market including According a devaluation of the national currency in February 2014, the project was delayed.
Earlier in 2015, EBRD also decided to support a project for modernization of the runway, taxiways and apron areas and acquisition of new lighting and meteorological equipment in order to double the capacity of the airport.
