Dec 02, 2015 (newstodate): From this month, the seat capacity on two Gulf carriers operating at Copenhagen Airport has got a further upward notch.
Following Emirates' introduction of the Airbus A380 on its daily service from Dubai, replacing the earlier Boeing 777-300ER service, Qatar is following suit with another expansion in its offerings.
Starting from today, Qatar is introducing two daily rotations on its route from Doha with Boeing 787 aircraft after having earlier added four weekly flights to its existing daily services.
Qatar launched daily flights from Qatar to Copenhagen from March 30, 2010, with Airbus A319 aircraft, replaced by Airbus A330 from October 31,2010, and Emirates followed from on August 1, 2011, with .
A third Gulf carrier, Bahrain-based carrier Gulf Air also sniffed at the Danish market with launch of services from Bahrain on July 1, 2011, offering four rotations using Boeing 737-700 aircraft. Frequency was increased to five weekly rotations from March 3, 2012, eventually going up to a daily rotation from June 1, 2012 - but the service was closed down again with the last operation on February 4, 2013.
Etihad still remains absent in the Danish and Scandinavian market.
One attempt by Etihad to draw closer to Denmark was the planned launch of services by its subsidiary Etihad Regional to start in March 2014 and operated with ATR 72-500 aircraft - but the services was cancelled.
